Policy approaches, key issues and fora

The purpose of this section is to explore basic approaches regarding the future evolution of international arrangements for foreign direct investment (FDI). For analytical purposes, two basic approaches, two ideal types, are distinguished, and the principal arguments advanced by their proponents are presented. One approach involves allowing current arrangements to evolve organically, while actively deepening and expanding them, as appropriate. The other approach involves the construction, through negotiations, of a comprehensive multilateral framework for FDI.
