International Maritime Organization (IMO)

In 1985, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held the fourteenth regular session of its biennial Assembly from 11 to 21 November at its headquarters in London. The Assembly re-elected Chandrika Prasad Srivastava as IMO Secretary-General for a fourth consecutive four-year term, beginning on 1 January 1986. The 28 resolutions adopted by the Assembly aimed at preventing marine pollution and improving maritime safety, and included one calling for better security in port and on board ships. The Assembly also adopted the budget and work programme of IMO for 1986-1987 and approved the long-term work plan of the organization up to 1992. It also established a technical co-operation fund of $1.2 million, the interest to be used for IMO’s technical co-operation activities.
