International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

In 2003, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continued to act as a catalyst for the development and transfer of peaceful nuclear technologies; to build and maintain a global nuclear safety regime; and to assist in efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The year marked the fiftieth anniversary of the “Atoms for Peace” speech delivered to the General Assembly by United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower, which offered a vision that would enable humanity to make full use of the benefits of nuclear energy and which eventually led to the establishment of IAEA.
