Every woman is at risk: Erosion of agency leads to unintended pregnancy

Unintended pregnancy affects women and girls (as well as transgender men and non-binary people) from all cultures, economic strata, religions and marital statuses. In many cultures and countries, stigma is attached to the pregnancy of an unmarried woman or girl. On the other hand, married women are often assumed to be open to, or accepting of, the prospect of pregnancy at any time — an erasure of their desires and choices. In that worldview, the concept of unintended pregnancy among married women does not exist.
