People have traditionally settled near water sources. An adequate and dependable source of water is needed to sustain humanity and to support future growth and development. Investment in water management has been repaid through increased livelihood security and reductions in health risks, vulnerability and ultimately poverty.1 Poverty reduction is closely linked to enhanced access to water.
