Innovation performance overview: sub-regional trends and findings

Since their independence, the EESC countries have embarked on a journey of economic liberalization and growth amid their transition from planned to market economies. The challenge now is to sustain and accelerate growth in productivity, while reducing the economic inequality and vulnerability to external shocks that came in the wake of marketoriented reforms (chapter I). Innovation plays a crucial role in addressing this challenge and enabling a resilient and sustainable post-COVID-19 recovery while also promoting the transition to circular economy.
