Trade Policy Framework Guyana

Guyana faces a daunting challenge of devising a new trade strategy that would best respond to the recent discovery of substantial oil reserves in its territory, which could represent a paradigm shift for the country’s economic structure. With a view to assisting the country to pursue its long-term policy objective geared towards diversification of production and export sectors, and ultimately, promote the sustainability of the Guyanese economy, this document seeks to inform a new trade strategy for Guyana. It inter alia provides an overview of the evolution and status of Guyana’s participation in the global economy and outlines a framework of options to enable Guyana to deal with major policy challenges and opportunities.
