An upper-middle income country, Thailand has faced several challenges relating to population changes brought about by socioeconomic development. Thailand welcomes millions of migrants each year. Rapid population ageing is straining human resources for future development, and increasing urbanization is shifting family structures. The emerging needs of a rapidly ageing society, youth participation and human capital development throughout the life-course are at the core of UNFPA’s work in Thailand. National policies and strategies on population development informed by evidence-based analysis have been formulated to address the needs of the heterogeneous population. UNFPA supports Thailand in establishing the South-South Cooperation hub on safe motherhood with sustainable models.
