Since the 1950s, the United Nations has published international recommendations for industrial statistics. The first set of recommendations was issued in 1953 (United Nations, 1953) and subsequently revised in 1960 (United Nations, 1960), 1968 (United Nations, 1968a) and 1983 (United Nations, 1983). The purpose of developing these international recommendations had been to establish a coherent and uniform measurement of industrial activities for national and international dissemination.
