The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), in fulfilment of the functions assigned to it under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961 and the relevant resolutions of the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, regularly examines issues affecting the supply of and the demand for opiates for licit requirements, and endeavours to ensure a standing balance between that supply and demand. The present section contains an analysis of the current situation based on the data provided by Governments.
