In 2012, the value (in current US$) of exports of "royalties and license fees" (EBOPS 2002 code 266) increased by 1.0 percent (compared to 6.3 percent average growth rate from 2008-2012) to reach 292.5 bln US$ (see table 2), while imports increased by 4.4 percent to reach 303.8 bln US$ (see table 3). Exports of this service accounted for 6.6 percent of total world services exports (see table 1). USA was the top exporter in 2012, alone accounting for 42.5 percent of world exports, followed by Japan and Netherlands, each accounting for 10.9 and 10.6 percent, respectively (see table 2). Ireland, USA and Switzerland were the top importers, with respectively 13.9, 13.1 and 7.9 percent of world imports (see table 3).
