1945

During the 1950’s the population of the developing ECAFE region rose by one-fifth and its food production by about one-third. Important though this achievement was, it represented little more than a recovery of food output per head to the 1934-1938 level. It still left perhaps one-quarter of the region’s population suffering from hunger and a much larger proportion lacking a diet of satisfactory quality.
