Land utilization was discussed in the Economic Survey of Asia and the Far East, 1947, where there was a brief account, based on the rather inadequate data so far available, of the extent of cultivation, the ratio of cultivated land to population and the types of land used, with a comparison of the pre- and postwar positions. The quantitative aspect of land utilization will therefore not be dealt with again here and, instead, consideration will be confined mainly to problems of utilization.
