The use of technology in international trade is here to stay and is set to grow rapidly. There is however, a North-South divide in terms of the benefits which Internet-facilitated business can bring. The absence of government policy, inadequate telecommunications infrastructures and banking sector participation, lack of awareness and poor Internet access make it difficult for some developing country enterprises to participate in the new digital economy. There is also a strong human dimension to participating fully in the new economy. People are simply uncomfortable with the new Internet technology and the changes required to take advantage of its potential.
