The publication's overall objective is to provide analytical research that defines frameworks for African governments, the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities, towards accelerating the establishment of the African Common Market through: the speedy removal of all tariff and non-tariff barriers, obstacles to free movement of people, investments and factors of production in general across Africa, and through fast-tracking the creation of an African continental Free Trade Area.

The United Nations E-Government Survey is produced every two years by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. It is the only report in the world that assesses the e-government development status of all United Nations Member States. It serves as a tool for decision-makers to identify their areas of strength and challenges in e-government and to guide e-government policies and strategies. The publication also highlights emerging e-government trends, issues and innovative practices, as well as challenges and opportunities of e-government development. The World Drug Report provides an annual overview of the major developments in drug markets for the various drug categories, ranging from production to trafficking, including development of new routes and modalities, as well as consumption.

This publication is the definitive report of the United Nations on the state of the world economy. It is jointly produced by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the five United Nations Regional Commissions. It provides an overview of recent global economic performance and short-term prospects for the world economy and of some key global economic policy and development issues.

The Macroeconomic Report on Latin America and the Caribbean is an ECLAC publication designed to meet the need for up-to-date analysis of the region’s macroeconomic performance amid shifting conditions. With this publication, ECLAC aims to make the results of its integrated informative and analytical approach available to public institutions, the media, academia, private analysts and the broader public, covering salient aspects of current conditions as well as structural traits of the region’s macroeconomic development.

The Global Report on Trafficking in Persons is issued by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and provides a global assessment of the scope of human trafficking and what is being done to fight it, based on data gathered from 155 countries. It offers a global assessment of the scope of human trafficking and what is being done to fight it in the context of the United Nations Protocol against Trafficking in Persons from 2003. It includes: an overview of trafficking patterns; legal steps taken in response; and country-specific information on reported cases of trafficking in persons, victims, and prosecutions.

The European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN) was done at Geneva on 26 May 2000 on the occassion of a Diplomatic Conference held under the joint auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR). It entered into force on 29 February 2008. ADN consists of a main legal text (the Agreement itself) and annexed Regulations and aims at: 1) Ensuring a high level of safety of international carriage of dangerous goods by inland waterways; 2) Contributing effectively to the protection of the environment by preventing any pollution resulting from accidents or incidents during such carriage; and 3) Facilitating transport operations and promoting international trade in dangerous goods.

Most drug trafficking is carried out in secrecy and is divorced from legal commerce. However, not all of the process is clandestine and precursors trafficking often intersects with legitimate commerce or customs controls, e.g. in order to source materials or transport shipments. These cross over points provide an opportunity to stop incidents of trafficking by using regulatory and interdiction tools. Controlling the procurement of the chemicals necessary to manufacture and process drugs is such a tool.

The United Nations has been contributing towards the harmonization of financial accounting and reporting standards since the 1970s. In order to address accounting and financial reporting issues on a continuous and inclusive basis, member States established the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) in 1982. The Review of International Accounting and Reporting Issues series contains the proceedings of the various session of ISAR as well as essays by leading experts on the implementation of international accounting standards and the current state of the international standard-setting process.
