ABC – Teaching Human Rights, 2004
Practical Activities for Primary and Secondary Schools
This publication aims to serve as a user-friendly tool for human rights education and a multi-coloured umbrella covering a number of basic human rights areas. It offers practical advice to teachers and other educators who want to foster human rights awareness and action among primary and secondary school children, including suggestions for developing learning activities. It is not meant to place an extra burden on an already overloaded curriculum but to assist in infusing human rights issues into subjects already taught in schools.

Child Nutrition Report 2025
Feeding Profit: How Food Environments Are Failing Children
In 2025, the global prevalence of obesity among school-age children and adolescents exceeded underweight for the first time. This dramatic shift in the face of malnutrition jeopardizes the health and future potential of children, communities and nations. The 2025 Child Nutrition Report – ‘Feeding Profit: How food environments are failing children’ – reveals how unhealthy food environments are contributing to the worldwide surge in overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. The report presents the latest data on the status, trends and inequities in overweight and obesity among children and adolescents worldwide. It describes how food environments expose children and adolescents to a constant supply of cheap and aggressively marketed ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks, while failing to make nutritious options available and affordable. It also explains how the lack of effective policies leaves countries unprepared to safeguard children and adolescents from these harmful food environments. Drawing from recent examples of countries that have made extraordinary progress, the report presents recommendations to transform children’s food environments.

Care in War and Conflict: A Pathway to Dignity and Recovery
Health and social support systems are essential to human dignity and social well-being. In times of war and conflict, the importance of a care economy intensifies, serving as both a lifeline and a catalyst for recovery and development. Wars often disrupt care systems, increasing the needs of vulnerable populations and placing heavy burdens on caregivers and health workers. Despite their essential role, caregiving services and support systems are frequently overlooked in policy responses to conflict. Rebuilding and strengthening this infrastructure are crucial for recovery. This includes restoring access to healthcare, psychosocial support and daily assistance, while also supporting those who provide these services, many of whom need support themselves. Displaced individuals should be recognized not only as recipients of care but also as active contributors to national relief and rebuilding efforts. Protecting health-care workers is equally vital to ensure that essential services continue during and after crises. By placing health and social support systems at the centre of recovery strategies, Governments can promote sustainable and inclusive rebuilding.

To address the current and future information demands related to climate action, data producers need to understand the policy context, key stakeholders and their information needs, and be able to communicate effectively how their data can be used for policy applications. This report aims to provide the staff of national statistical offices (NSOs) with such knowledge, showcase what statistical systems already offer to support climate action, and provide ideas, inspiration and recommendations on how NSOs can make their offering more valuable for data users. The document examines a number of areas, such as the reporting under the Paris Agreement, climate change mitigation and adaptation, just transition, informing the public and financial aspects of climate action. The report identifies concrete ways in which national statistical offices (NSOs) can be involved and showcases what the statistical systems already offer to support climate action. The document’s primary audience is NSO staff, including domain experts and managers. The Guidance aims to inspire and support those who want to start to work in this area or want to do more. The report may also benefit data users, other producers of climate change-related data in countries and international organizations involved in climate change-related statistics.

World Programme for Human Rights Education: Plan of Action, Fifth Phase
The World Programme for Human Rights Education was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2004 as an ongoing global initiative structured in consecutive phases in order to advance implementation of human rights education programmes in all sectors. Human rights education promotes a shared sense of humanity and fosters a common understanding that all human beings are equally deserving of dignity, respect and justice. It empowers children and youth to fulfil their role as global citizens, to take action and uphold their human rights and those of others, and to participate meaningfully in public affairs and democratic decision-making processes. In recognition of this, the United Nations Human Rights Council, through its resolution 57/10, launched the Fifth Phase (2025-2029) of the World Programme for Human Rights Education, dedicated to children and youth, with a focus on human rights education in three thematic areas: digital technologies and human rights, gender equality, and environment and climate change. Building on United Nations documents and consultations with a diverse range of stakeholders, this Fifth Phase publication outlines the scope, background, specific objectives and components of the plan of action and steps to implement it.
