لا يوجد في السنغال سوى عدد قللي من علماء الآثار للتّّنقيب عن المواقع العديدة في البلاد، ومصطفى سال هو أحد هؤلاء حيث جاب المنطقة طيلة عقود من الزّّمن بحثًًا عن آثار لّخّفتها الشعوب التي عاشت هناك.
