Abstract
In September 2023, the World Heritage List grew by 42 new sites, of which 33 are cultural sites and 9 are natural. Africa celebrated a significant milestone, now boasting more than 100 World Heritage sites across the continent following the inscription of five new properties. The extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh also saw the additions of three ‘Sites of Memory’, reaffirming the vital role of heritage as a place of remembrance, healing and reconciliation.
