The corporate sector plays a crucial role in the combat against climate change. The top 1,000 largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting companies are responsible for the annual emission of 10 GtCO2e, or about 20% of the world’s annual GHG emissions. Various initiatives exist trying to catalyse emission reductions in this sector, with almost a quarter of the top 1,000 emitting companies participating in one or more initiatives (Wouters, 2013).
