On 17 March 1983, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. The thirteenth regular session of the IMO biennial Assembly was held from 7 to 18 November at its new headquarters at 4 Albert Embankment on the south bank of the River Thames in London. The 45 resolutions adopted by the Assembly dealt with the prevention of marine pollution and improving maritime safety and included amendments to the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966. The Assembly also adopted the budget and work programme of IMO for 1984-1985 and took decisions regarding the future of the World Maritime University (see below) and the IMO long-term work plan.
