In 1995, UN efforts to secure peace for the vast region of Asia and the Pacific continued to be marred by continuing conflicts in Afghanistan and Tajikistan, the lingering consequences of wars between Iraq and Kuwait and between Iran and Iraq, and tensions relating to the Korean penisula and to Jammu and Kashmir.
