Exporters often realize the importance of protecting their IP only after it is too late, i.e. once they are faced with imitators or counterfeiters or once they are being accused of infringing the rights of others. When preparing the export plan and strategy, it is, therefore, important to understand the IP environment in the potential export market as much as it is to understand all other facets of the business environment in that market.
