Economic and Social Development

Le 1er janvier 2016, le monde a commencé officiellement la mise en œuvre de l'Agenda pour le développement durable de 2030 - le plan d'action transformateur basé sur 17 objectifs de développement durable - pour relever les défis mondiaux urgents au cours des quinze prochaines années. Dans le but d'offrir une évaluation précise de la mise en œuvre de l'Agenda 2030, le Rapport sur les objectifs du développement durable présente un aperçu des 17 objectifs basés sur un cadre d'indicateurs mondiaux proposé, en utilisant les données fournies par les Nations Unies et d'autres Agences internationales. Les données et les analyses fournies dans le rapport mettent en évidence les lacunes et les défis les plus importants, de sorte que des mesures puissent être prises pour inverser ces tendances.

The Energy Statistics Pocketbook presents a compilation of energy statistics designed to highlight the availability of data on various aspects of energy production, transformation and use and its linkages to other key statistics, covering the whole world from 1990 to the last year available. It distinguishes itself from the other three UNSD energy statistics annual data publications (Energy Statistics Yearbook, Energy Balances, and Electricity Profiles) in that it highlights key indicators and uses different visualizations (such as maps and charts) to also show developments, dependencies and distributions in a way that standard data tables cannot convey. Energy is central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, and sound energy statistics is the basis for the reliable measurement of progress, thereby assisting the formulation of policy measures to achieve international and national sustainable development goals. The information in this publication is primarily based on the energy data collection carried out by the Energy Statistics Section of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD).

The Report on the World Social Situation (RWSS) is prepared on a biennial basis by the Division for Social Policy and Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). Over the years, the Report has served as a background document for discussion and policy analysis of socio-economic matters at the intergovernmental level, and has aimed at contributing to the identification of emerging social trends of international concern and to the analysis of relationships among major development issues which have both international and national dimensions.

National Accounts Statistics: Main Aggregates and Detailed Tables contains a complete and consistent set of time series from 1970 onwards of main national accounts aggregates for more than 200 countries and areas in the world. It is maintained and updated on the basis of annual collections of the official annual national accounts statistics supplemented by United Nations Statistics Division estimates of national accounts statistics for those years and countries for which the official statistics is incomplete or inconsistent. In addition to the values of national accounts statistics, it contains analytical indicators and ratios derived from the main national accounts aggregates related to economic structure and development.

The Industrial Commodity Statistics Yearbook provides statistics on the production of about 600 major industrial commodities. The commodities have been selected on the basis of their importance in world production and trade. The Yearbook provides data on the quantities and values of industrial production for the major industrial commodities. The Yearbook is therefore organized in two volumes: Volume I: Physical Quantity Data and Volume II: Monetary Value Data.

The UNESCO Science Report series was launched in 1993 under the name of World Science Report series. The series monitors the evolution of the support system for science, technology and innovation worldwide over time, through the eyes of an independent team of experts who are each writing about the country or region from which they hail. The first chapter provides a global overview. Each subsequent chapter begins with an introduction placing the country or region under study in its socio-economic and political context. On the basis of the most recent data available − many of which are provided by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics − the author(s) then goes on to identify and discuss emerging trends and developments in scientific research and higher education, before concluding with a number of policy recommendations.

The Trade and Development Report (TDR), launched in 1981, is issued every year for the annual session of the Trade and Development Board. The Report analyses current economic trends and major policy issues of international concern, and makes suggestions for addressing these issues at various levels.

Le Rapport sur le commerce et le développement (RCD), lancé en 1981, est publié chaque année pour la session annuelle du Conseil du commerce et du développement. Le rapport analyse les tendances économiques actuelles ainsi que les grandes questions politiques d'intérêt international, et élabore des suggestions pour aborder ces questions à différents niveaux.

The World Social Report is the flagship publication on major social development issues of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations. The report identifies current and emerging social trends and provides analysis on major development issues occurring at both the national and international levels. Offering guidance to policymakers with agenda-setting and decision making, the report aims to strengthen the social dimension of sustainable development.
