The Status of Services Trade and Services Trade Policies in Africa
Over the past two decades the share of services in Africa’s GDP has grown while the shares of agriculture and manufacturing have been declining. That pattern is also true of total employment. Services thus drive value-addition and provide critical inputs for boosting other economic activities. But trade in services remains largely invisible and intangible tied to the national regional and international movement of people information money and goods (Feketekuty 1988).

Transport in UNECE
The UNECE Sustainable Transport Division is the secretariat of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) and the ECOSOC Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. The ITC and its 17 working parties as well as the ECOSOC Committee and its sub-committees are intergovernmental decision-making bodies that work to improve the daily lives of people and businesses around the world in measurable ways and with concrete actions to enhance traffic safety environmental performance energy efficiency and the competitiveness of the transport sector.
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is one of the five United Nations regional commissions administered by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It was established in 1947 with the mandate to help rebuild post-war Europe develop economic activity and strengthen economic relations among European countries and between Europe and the rest of the world. During the Cold War UNECE served as a unique forum for economic dialogue and cooperation between East and West. Despite the complexity of this period significant achievements were made with consensus reached on numerous harmonization and standardization agreements.
Introduction
The Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs and on the Special Equipment to be Used for such Carriage (ATP) done at Geneva on 1 September 1970 entered into force on 21 November 1976.
Transports à la CEE-ONU
La Division des transports durables de la Commission économique des Nations Unies pour l’Europe assure le secrétariat du Comité des transports intérieurs (CTI) de la CEE-ONU et du Comité d’experts du transport des marchandises dangereuses et du système général harmonisé de classification et d’étiquetage des produits chimiques du Conseil économique et social de l’ONU. Le CTI et ses dix-sept groupes de travail tout comme le Comité d’experts du Conseil économique et social et ses sous-comités sont des organes intergouvernementaux dont les travaux visent à améliorer de façon mesurable l’économie mondiale et la vie quotidienne de la population par le biais de décisions concrètes qui permettent d’augmenter la sécurité du transport les performances environnementales l’efficacité énergétique et la compétitivité du secteur.
Commission Économique des Nations Unies Pour L’Europe (CEE-ONU)
La Commission économique pour l’Europe (CEE) est l’une des cinq commissions régionales de l’ONU administrées par le Conseil économique et social. Créée en 1947 elle a été chargée de contribuer à la reconstruction de l’Europe d’après guerre au développement de l’économie et au renforcement des relations économiques parmi les pays européens et entre l’Europe et le reste du monde. Pendant la guerre froide elle a constitué un cadre exceptionnel pour le dialogue et la coopération économiques entre l’Est et l’Ouest. En dépit de la complexité de cette période des avancées majeures ont été enregistrées ainsi qu’en témoignent les nombreux accords de normalisation et d’harmonisation sur lesquels un consensus a pu être dégagé.
