The main subject of this report is the recovery of world agriculture after the second war, the way in which. resources Were mobilized to that end, the principal difficulties which had to be overcome, and the lessons which may be drawn from the remarkable experiences of the last ten years for guidance in dealing with the very different problems which now lie allead. This chapter summarizes the food and agricultural situation when the world emerged from six years of global war and sketches the general social, economic and political background during the period in which the recovery took place.
