Introduction

1. This is the forty-ninth issue of National Accounts Statistics: Main Aggregates and Detailed Tables showing detailed national accounts estimates for 189 countries and areas for the reporting years 1996 to 2007. Like the previous issues, it has been prepared by the Statistics Division of the Department for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat with the generous co-operation of national statistical offices. It is issued in accordance with the recommendation of the Statistical Commission at its first session that the Statistics Division of the United Nations should publish regularly the most recent available data on national accounts for as many countries and areas as possible.
