Historically speaking, there are two approaches to handling the issue of environmental change: one is to remove the causes of the change and the other is to adjust to the adverse effects. In the context of climate change, these responses are referred to as mitigation and adaptation measures, respectively. Figure 4.7.1 depicts a flowchart of climate change issues posed by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, including both impacts and countermeasures.
