Further progress was made during 1963 by the mines and factories of the ECAFE region, and also by its building and construction industries. In the mining sector output of tin-in-concentrates fell by 3 per cent for the first half of the year but output of tin metal rose by 5 per cent. Output of iron ore, for the same period, rose by 8 per cent. There was also an increase for bauxite but some decline for manganese. Coal output rose by only 1 per cent, much more slowly than other sources of power, as corresponding increases for crude petroleum and electricity were 8 and 6 per cent.
