Abstract

This paper tries to show that the recent spate of small-farmer policies fit an identifiable historical pattern, and that they are concerned with restructuring the ‘traditional’ agricultural sector (or a certain part of it) in order to achieve the necessary food production and political stability for accumulation to continue more or less unabated.
