Abstract

Data- and information sharing across political, sectoral, environmental and institutional boundaries is necessary for the sustainable management of transboundary waters. The Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) requires riparian Parties to exchange data and information to enable the sustainable management and protection of shared water resources. This publication contains a collection of good practices and lessons learned in data-sharing in transboundary basins around the world, intended to inspire countries and basins to increase cooperation through enhanced information exchange. It contributes to the effective implementation of the Water Convention and improved transboundary water cooperation worldwide.
