The general pattern of foreign private investment, discussed in the preceding chapter, needs elaboration of the features of investment from different countries. This chapter focuses on direct investment flows from two of the important investing countries, namely, the United States and Japan. The following aspects of foreign investment are discussed: geographical distribution among major regions, particularly the ECAFE region, distribution by sectors of economic activity, and earnings of investment.
