El 1 de enero de 2016, el mundo inició oficialmente la aplicación de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible, el plan de acción transformativo basado en 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, para abordar los desafíos globales más urgentes en los próximos 15 años. Con el fin de ofrecer una evaluación precisa de la situación del mundo en la aplicación de la Agenda 2030, el Informe sobre los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible presenta una visión general de los 17 objetivos basados en un marco de indicador propuesto global, usando datos proporcionados por las Naciones Unidas y otras agencias internacionales. Los datos y el análisis proporcionado en el informe destacan las brechas y los desafíos más significativos, de modo que se puedan tomar medidas para invertir estas tendencias.

The Energy Statistics Pocketbook presents a compilation of energy statistics designed to highlight the availability of data on various aspects of energy production, transformation and use and its linkages to other key statistics, covering the whole world from 1990 to the last year available. It distinguishes itself from the other three UNSD energy statistics annual data publications (Energy Statistics Yearbook, Energy Balances, and Electricity Profiles) in that it highlights key indicators and uses different visualizations (such as maps and charts) to also show developments, dependencies and distributions in a way that standard data tables cannot convey. Energy is central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, and sound energy statistics is the basis for the reliable measurement of progress, thereby assisting the formulation of policy measures to achieve international and national sustainable development goals. The information in this publication is primarily based on the energy data collection carried out by the Energy Statistics Section of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD).

The UNESCO Science Report series was launched in 1993 under the name of World Science Report series. China se ha convertido en un actor fundamental del comercio mundial. Aunque no ha firmado acuerdos comerciales con los países signatarios del tlcan, ha ganado terreno como proveedor de bienes logrando grandes avances en esa área. Una de las tendencias dominantes de la integración económica ha sido el desarrollo del comercio intraindustrial, que ha alcanzado altos niveles en los países signatarios del Tratado. En este artículo se analiza el comercio intraindustrial en esta zona de libre comercio, donde la estructura de producción de los países participantes ha cambiado significativamente desde la liberalización del comercio, revelando la internacionalización de las cadenas de producción. Finalmente, se presentan los cambios en la estructura comercial originados por la creciente presencia china en la región del tlcan, cuyo comercio tiene un esquema similar al de una rueda: los Estados Unidos de América como eje central y el Canadá, China y México como radios.

En este trabajo se analiza la inserción de los jóvenes en el mercado laboral en diez países de América Latina durante las tres últimas décadas utilizando encuestas de hogares. Se constata que: i) la situación de los jóvenes se deterioró en el tiempo con una mejora hacia finales de la década de 2000. Pese a ello, las tasas de desempleo e informalidad juvenil se mantienen en niveles muy elevados; ii) los jóvenes logran ingresar en una trayectoria típica del ciclo de vida laboral, superando los resultados obtenidos por adultos de generaciones anteriores. La informalidad laboral no se ajusta a este comportamiento e indica la existencia de algún tipo de penalidad vinculada a la condición de informalidad en la juventud. En términos generales, los resultados son alentadores. Se concluye que los esfuerzos realizados para mejorar la situación de los jóvenes en el mercado de trabajo deben mantenerse para prolongar esta recuperación.

El Climate Impacts Assessment Model de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (ec l ac-ciam) es una plataforma de modelado creada para evaluar las consecuencias económicas del cambio climático en el Caribe, que puede consultarse, descargarse e incluso modificarse libremente. La versión disponible es un modelo completamente desarrollado que puede utilizarse con facilidad para efectuar ejercicios de simulación. En este trabajo se realiza una descripción general del modelo y se presenta un ejercicio de simulación a modo de ejemplo. En los resultados del ejercicio se destaca que el Caribe es una región muy vulnerable en la que el cambio climático producirá consecuencias económicas considerables y negativas.

Los datos sugieren que los mercados laborales no encuentran el equilibrio según la microeconomía tradicional. Las persistentes desigualdades salariales intersectoriales y aquellas derivadas del tamaño de la empresa constituyen un desafío. Los datos del sector privado de Jamaica revelan que las desigualdades salariales según tamaño de la empresa podrían promover desigualdades intersectoriales. Al considerar la calidad de la mano de obra y otras características, se descubre que las empresas con 10 a 49 empleados y aquellas con 50 o más pagan primas estimadas de 14,3% y 22,9%, respectivamente. Tras estimar las diferencias en los perfiles de permanencia laboral, la prima vinculada a empresas mayores se redujo al 15,9%, y no varió la vinculada a empresas con 10 a 49 trabajadores. No obstante la explicación parcial proporcionada por los diferentes perfiles de permanencia laboral, el grueso de las desigualdades salariales según tamaño de la empresa parece obedecer a otras construcciones teóricas.

El Índice de Desarrollo Humano (idh) es un indicador diseñado para hacer seguimiento al desarrollo de los países a través de tres dimensiones: salud, educación e ingresos. Desde su publicación en 1990, se han hecho importantes esfuerzos por mejorar su calidad y en repetidas ocasiones se ha insistido en que no es una medida definitiva. Atendiendo a este hecho, a continuación se expone una reflexión en torno de lo que es el desarrollo humano, sus pilares y las dimensiones que se deberían incorporar al indicador (empleo y libertades políticas) para reforzar su capacidad de evidenciar los avances en la materia. Además, se presentan el idh modificado, las especificaciones para su cálculo y un anexo en que se muestra su comportamiento en 117 países.
