Climate change is a major threat to the achievement of the SDGs. With the adoption of the Paris Agreement on 12 December 2015, all UNFCCC Parties agreed to a common set of objectives to address the challenges of climate change. These objectives include the longterm goal of keeping the increase in global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Improving the ability of countries to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change is another major objective. Implementation of these global goals is based on individual NDCs, which will guide the climate policies of developed and developing countries going forward. This report highlights what climate change and climate policies in the context of the Paris Agreement mean for CDDCs and how these will affect their efforts in achieving the SDGs.
